The DROPKICK MICKEYS! is a highly entertaining and energetic Celtic Bluegrass duo featuring Michael Kelly (fiddle & vocals) and David Burns (guitar & vocals). In 2002, they founded an Irish band called “Sligo Rags”, which, in addition to winning “Best Folk Group” award at the Orange County Music Awards two years in a row, has performed at Disney California Adventure since 2011.
The DROPKICK MICKEYS! is the pared-down version of this super group, designed to perform in pubs and other venues where a full band might not be appropriate. It is a powerhouse of Celtic & Bluegrass music in an economical package.
An extremely versatile fiddler, Michael Kelly’s career spans decades and includes forays into Classical, Country, Rock ‘n’ Roll, Jazz, Blues, Bluegrass, and Celtic. In 2011, he was featured on the album “Celtic Pink Floyd” (https://www.discogs.com/Celtic-Pink-Floyd-Celtic-Pink-Floyd-/release/7874881) where he sings, fiddles, and plays the Irish frame drum - the bódhran. His exciting fiddle style and soaring tenor voice are a delight to all.
Featured in Dan Miller’s “Flatpicking Guitar” magazine, David Burns is a veteran of the Celtic and Bluegrass music scenes. He has played guitar, banjo, and mandolin for countless Irish and Bluegrass bands. He is comfortable with both finger-style and the pick. His guitar work is clean, blending Irish greens with Blues, Jazz, and Bluegrass. His sense of harmony and his strong baritone voice provide a firm foundation for any melody.
