Biography

Carmen Estévez Calero is a percussionist, singer, producer and studio musician from Montijo (Badajoz). He studied at the Montijo Music Conservatory where she learned clarinet. At age 18 she began touring as a singer for the pop band "Super 8". Then she moved to Madrid where she studied percussion at the Escuela Superior de Música Creativa  and began working as a percussionist and singer (Sedyu, Henry Takkenberg , Inma Serrano ... and in productions such as "Hoy No Me Puedo Levantar "(Nacho Cano). 

In 2008 she went to New York. There she studied at the The Collective School of Music , where she worked as a percussionist at the educational center with Bob Quaranta and Kim Plainfield for more than 3 years. She created her own flamenco/jazz trio Flamenkina, who later became the original band for the tap dancer Savion Glover 's show Solo in Time  (who worked for years with jazz player McCoy Turner). She has also performed with artists from the New York flamenco scene such as Sonia Olla and Ismael Fernández Auxi Fernández or Sean Kupisz,  and was part of "Flamenco Revolución" with Maya de Silva y los Chavales del Barrio, Arturo Martínez " Espíritu Gitano , New York Gypsy Festival 2010 and Flamenco Vivo Carlota Santana, and with musicians from the NYC scene such as Sean Wayland, Matt Geraghty, Joe Claussel, Marshall Davis, Andy McCloud,  Nakamura Takuya (NERVE) among many others.     

Since 2011, she has worked with the virtuoso guitarist and winner of a Grammy Hernan Romero and with jazz saxophonist Kestutis Vaiginis , in the project  Strings and Air  and she is a member of vibrant projects such as Brooklyn Gypsies  , Technicolor Lenses or V Zone

In 2020 she recorded a new album with Daniel García and Pablo San Martín, for their project CaneliBeat,  where she mixes flamenco and pop with electronic music.

Currently, she works as a percussionist for the musical production Cruz de Navajas  which premiered in Valencia in February 2020. 

At the same time she produces her own music as a Cavewoman, and plays for the new project Nestior
