Ben Melius came to Denver in 2006 by way of the eastern shores of Maryland and the coasts of Southern California. He began performing in the Front Range in 2008, sharing his unique songs and inimitable playing style with several projects. After a period of personal growth in several areas of his life, 2024 marked his return to the space of music and performance in Colorado and beyond. His shows include intimate acoustic solo sets, the Ben Melius Trio, and his full band, Freshly Minted.

Ben’s songwriting explores his experiences with life and love; finding it, losing it, and learning what is and isn’t. His narrative is reflective, introspective and relatable; his message in step with current a=?airs and peppered with wit and honesty. His story is one of authenticity and belief, centered around the journey to finding the best in ourselves and the knocks we’ll take along the way. Through the vulnerability of his writing and a distinctive approach to his instrument, Ben creates an incomparable sound and space in the Colorado music scene that resonates with meaning.

A bit of a genre bender, Ben has long been inspired primarily by the 70’s disco-era R&B he fell in love with as a child, and the moody aura of 90’s Neo-soul. He also leans into the melancholy of folk, the whimsy of cool jazz, the upbeat feels of 80’s pop, and as a guitar player, loves to call back to classic rock and blues as well. His sets blend his original music with re-imaginings and re-arrangements of both popular and B-side covers, creating a sound and vibe to keep audiences engaged with brains and hearts.
