Roots Music is a broad category of music including bluegrass, gospel, old time music, jug bands, Appalachian folk, blues, Cajun and Native American music. It is considered “roots music” because it served as the basis of music later developed in the United States, including rock and roll, rhythm and blues, and jazz. Mark thinks he falls in there somewhere. Mark’s biggest influences were the Beatles-Stones-Dylan triumvirate. Through the Stones, primarily, he discovered, and fell in love with, The Blues ­— Chuck Berry, Willie Dixon, Howlin’ Wolf, Lightnin’ Hopkins, Leadbelly, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, to name a few! He’s also a big fan of Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen and Nick Drake. He also finds regional, traditional, folk, world music to be very interesting!Performing live, Mark has mostly played the local Los Angeles club circuit, in West Hollywood, The House of Blues Parish Room, The Viper Room Acoustic Lounge and Bar 20 On Sunset. In Los Angeles, Molly Malone’s and The Silverlake Lounge. In Santa Monica, TRiP and Bar Pico.Mark was born, and grew up in, Seattle, Washington. He currently lives in Los Angeles, California, USA.
